How Service Providers Can Overcome the Fear of Posting on Social Media

Stop Hiding Your Work: How Service Providers Can Overcome the Fear of Posting on Social Media

If you’ve ever said,

“I just don’t have the energy.”
“It’s stressful.”
“I don’t have the time for it.”
“I don’t know what to post.”

then trust me, you’re not alone.

As service providers, we already give so much of ourselves. We work long hours, juggle schedules, and somehow still need to connect with people on a level that’s beyond just delivering a service.

But here’s the truth…

For many of us, the real reason we’re not posting isn’t about time, energy, or ideas. It’s because we don’t want to be judged.

I know because I’ve been there. I’ve harshly judged myself, critiqued my work until I couldn’t see its value, and compared myself to others.

And I learned something important:
That judgment starts within.

Today, I’m breaking down simple, actionable tips to help you get comfortable showing your work (and yourself) on social media so you can attract clients, build your personal brand, and even create new streams of income.

1. If You’re Camera-Shy, Start Here

Not everyone wants to show their face on camera and that’s okay.
If you barely want to show your work, I get it. But here’s the thing: you can still make engaging content without being front and center.

  • Do voiceovers. Record your process or results, then add your voice telling a story or sharing tips.

  • Share Your Work. Share your work with captions that grab attention make it funny, inspiring, or informative.

Pro Tip: Lighting is everything.

Clean your camera lens, tidy your workspace, and invest in affordable lighting (you can find great options on Amazon for $30). The internet is the new hair magazine, show your work in the best light possible.

2. See Social Media as the New Hair Show

Back in the day, you had to pay hundreds to get into a magazine or participate in a hair show. Now? There are no gatekeepers.

Social media is your magazine, your runway, your stage and you have full creative control.

Post like you would prepare for a hair show:

  • Showcase your best work.

  • Present it in a polished environment.

  • Let your style and personality shine.

3. Share More of YOU

Yes, your work speaks volumes but people also want to know the person behind it. That’s the connection that keeps clients loyal for years.

Ask your long-term clients:

“What do you love about me outside of my work?”

Maybe it’s your humor, your style, or the advice you give. That’s your unique factor, show it online.

  • If you’re funny—share that humor.

  • If you’re stylish—post your outfits.

  • If you give great advice—share tips and wisdom.

Remember: You are the missing ingredient that makes your work stand out.

4. Practice Talking on Camera

If you do want to start speaking in your content but fear public speaking, start small:

  • Pick a platform where you have little to no followers (I used TikTok for this).

  • Record and watch yourself. Notice filler words (“um,” “you know”) and work on cutting them down.

  • Watch your videos on mute to see nervous habits or awkward gestures and adjust.

  • Accept that your first video won’t be perfect. Your 10th will be better, and your 100th will be amazing.

5. Stop Overthinking

Start Posting

Here’s a reality check:
If you can post random memes, food pics, or selfies… you can post your work.

Social media isn’t just for fun, it’s a tool to grow your income. Whether it’s:

  • Attracting new clients

  • Getting paid for views

  • Landing affiliate deals

  • Building an audience for coaching or teaching

… there’s money waiting for you online.

💡 Action Step: Tell Your Story This Week

This week, commit to posting at least one piece of content that shows either your work or something personal about you.

Then keep going. Consistency builds confidence.

Final Thoughts

The biggest thing to remember is this:
No one else can be you.

That’s your superpower.

When you embrace that and stop hiding behind your work, you open the door to more opportunities, stronger client relationships, and a brand that truly reflects your value.

So clean that camera lens, turn on your ring light, and start showing the world what you can do both through your skills and your personality.
